Watercolors

BIO

My name is Chris Leepow. I am originally from the islands of Trinidad and Tobago but spent my teenage years in the waters of the Turks and Caicos and Freeport, Bahamas. My artwork is influenced by the many days and nights I spent on the ocean, sailing between the islands of the Bahamas, from Providenciales to Nassau. The countless hours I spent underwater, spearfishing for lobsters along the northern shores of Freeport and Abaco, or fishing with my dad, have also shaped some of my fondest memories.

“The ocean stirs the heart, inspires the imagination, and brings eternal joy to the soul.” – Robert Wyland

Artist Statement

Watercolor is my medium of choice because of its organic flow and the way it mirrors the movement of water itself. It allows me to work instinctively, bringing a piece to life quickly while embracing the unexpected interactions of pigment and water. Though my professional path led me toward digital media, a college professor at the University of Nebraska encouraged me to keep exploring watercolors, a challenge I have embraced ever since.
