BIO
Canan was born in Turkey in 1972. She worked as a personal banker until the 2001 financial crisis hit. She then joined Emirates Airlines, where she met her Bahamian husband and married him in 2005 when she moved to The Bahamas. Amidst raising her now 16-year-old son, Canan haphazardly enrolled in an online gouache course in 2021 and she has been painting ever since.
Artist Statement
Canan is an artist based in Nassau who uses acrylic and mixed media in her art. She is often inspired by beautiful Bahamian culture and nature and her style is colourful and whimsical. She is not afraid to use bold, bright colours and she loves the uplifting effect of the colours she chooses. Canan is very fond of Bahamian music and Junkanoo culture and she loves painting Junkanoo portraits and scenes. Canan thinks art came to her rescue just when she needed it most and she finds joy and comfort in her art.
