BIO

Astrid Adjuah is a self-taught abstract artist who works with acrylic on glass, fabric, and paper. She is a certified Project Coordinator and has a passion for flowers, and therefore a great love of form and colour. Each art piece is a portrayal of both – as she “sees” it. She has been painting and crafting for over 30 years with many pieces sold at various art and craft shows and in souvenir stores around The Bahamas.
Astrid Adjuah lives and works in Nassau, Bahamas and completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Plant and Soil Science from Tuskegee University (Tuskegee, Alabama). The College of The Bahamas was the first stop, earning an A.A. degree in Biology with Agriculture. She is a graduate of St. John’s College High School. Adjuah is also a Certified Esthetician (BTVI) and Make-up Artist (Hollywood Institute of Beauty). She has two sons and loves flowers, reading, art and crafting.

Artist Statement

Astrid Adjuah is a self-taught abstract artist whose practice explores form and color through acrylic on glass, fabric, and paper. With a lifelong passion for flowers and the natural world, her work reflects an intuitive response to the shapes, movement, and vibrancy she observes, translating what she sees into expressive, abstract compositions.

Alongside her artistic practice, Adjuah is a certified Project Coordinator and has spent more than 30 years painting and crafting. Her work has been featured in numerous art and craft shows and is held in private collections, as well as souvenir stores throughout The Bahamas. This longevity speaks to both her dedication and her deep connection to creative making as a sustained practice rather than a passing pursuit.

Based in Nassau, Bahamas, Adjuah holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Plant and Soil Science from Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama, and an Associate of Arts degree in Biology with Agriculture from The College of The Bahamas. Her academic background continues to inform her artistic perspective, grounding her abstract work in an understanding of growth, structure, and the interconnectedness of natural systems.

Art in Agriculture is a concept that has lived with Adjuah for many years, dating back to her professional experience at the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), where she was introduced to AgriTourism under the mentorship of Ms. Ena Harvey. While agriculture has traditionally been represented in art through literal depictions—fruits, vegetables, farms, and landscapes—Adjuah’s work reimagines these themes through abstraction, allowing color, form, and texture to evoke the essence of agriculture rather than illustrate it directly. Through this body of work, she bridges science and creativity, honoring the agricultural roots that continue to shape both her art and her identity.
